This Wednesday, during our Momentum service, I've asked for our church family to bring a bottle of olive oil, or a small vial filled with olive oil. We will pray together as the oil is blessed, and set apart for anointing purposes.

The sacred oil represents the anointing of the Holy Spirit, God’s anointing. As we focus our hearts on His covenant, I want to explain the power of anointing with sacred oil.

Anointing with oil is a practice, confirmed in Scripture, to see those physically sick and afflicted helped and healed.

"Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven." James 5:13-15

In Luke 7: 37-38, "a woman in the city, who was a sinner" not only anointed Jesus before He was crucified, she poured her future on Him. The oil she used was expensive and could have been sold for her support and her life.

Isaiah 10:27 speaks of our burdens being destroyed because of the anointing oil.

1 Samuel 16:13 shows us the power of anointing our family for God's purpose. “Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.”

What if someone in your family, won't allow you to anoint them? You can anoint their bed, pillow, socks or their car. I even knew a man who anointed the soles of his shoes and walked around his office praying for his co-workers. Whenever you're anointing a person or object, listen for the Holy Spirit and pray as He leads you.

Exodus 30:25-29 God commanded Moses to anoint a tent with oil, to set it apart as a holy dwelling place. We often think of a holy place as only being in a church. However, God wants to make your home His sanctuary and dwell with you there.

It's time to take authority over your house: to make your home God’s dwelling place. Take your anointing oil and rub it on the frame of your doors and windows. As you pray, invite the Holy Spirit to dwell in every room. Speak blessings over everyone that walks through your door, and rebuke any evil spirit they might have tagging along.

When applied in faith, the anointing oil is powerful. It can secure your future, protect your family, and your home. Along with prayer and fasting, it can tear down the strongholds the enemy has formed around you.
